About American Association of Suicidology - AAS
The American Association of Suicidology (AAS) was founded in 1968 by Edwin S. Shneidman. The aim of the association is to understand and prevent suicide.
A not-for-profit organization, aims of the American Association of Suicidology include:
- Encouraging - application and development of strategies which reduce incidence and prevalence rates of suicidal behaviors.
- Promoting - research and training in suicidology
- Compiling, Developing, Evaluating, Disseminating - accurate information about suicide behaviors to the public.
- Fostering - the highest quality of suicide prevention intervention and postvention support to the public
- Publicizing - information on official American Association of Suicidology positions on issues of public policy relating to suicide
- Advancing - the field of suicidology as a science. Work includes developing, disseminating and encouraging academic work in suicidology
The American Association of Suicidology has a wide membership base which includes:
